It was probably just a defensive response from the lunge from the big dog. Next time it’d be best to gently introduce her to the other dog, or give her plenty of space to scramble away.

Yeah. Next dog we saw (a frenchie whose owner, upon seeing us, immediately warned he was “50/50”), I made sure to watch her closely and pause before walking past him. Which ended up being a smart move because that dog was FAR more aggressive than the pinscher. This said, Ada had zero reaction to his angry barking and lunging. I think big-dog just spooked her.

I have to remind myself that how I walk alone is not how I walk with a dog in tow, and to keep that in mind from now on. She’s very easy going, but for her and others’ safety, I need to pay more attention. Cheap lessons.

  1. crazyrodeogirl said: Yeah, I’d agree with that, and small dogs are usually pretty defensive with their massive counterparts, it’s pretty normal. I’d suggest slow introductions and maybe find a big buddy for her? Might help if she gets a bit desensitized to bigger fellows.
  2. littlecoffeemonsters said: A good thing to do is when you see a dog that is being agressive, stop and have Ada sit until the person has walked by. It makes Ada not look as threatening and it also tells the other owner to try to move their dog away while you wait.
