And the same folks who rescued Lil Drac also help out non-bats. Here is a toad that took up residence behind their building which ate the extra mealworms they could feed the bats (but are fine for a toad). They set out a dish for the tiny amphibian!

Toads, I’ve decided, are incredibly cute.

DAMN YOU ALL FILLING MY DASH WITH YOUR “FEELINGS” OVER THIS ADORABLE BAT.

Anyway, here’s Lil Drac all grown up.

Go watch the Bat World’s other videos too, please. Find out more about bats and the amazing work they do for many different species. Oh, and you can buy a Lil Drac keychain for yourself too! They also sell bat houses so you can give a home to the bats in your area.

Happy Halloween everyone!

Here is an orphan baby bat. He suckles on a foam tip, rocks himself to sleep, and gets brushie-brushie’d to remind him to clean up like a big boy bat.

A crow and a kea parrot solve puzzles to retrieve a treat.

BIOLOGY! I love animal behavior studies.

My plan has always been that if the art thing doesn’t work out, somehow find out how to get into this field of study. Parrots and corvids are fucking amazing.

(It also interests me how much they use keas for these type of tests out of all parrots. I guess it’s because they manipulate objects all the time in the wild [in the form of destroying people’s cameras and windshields and other stuff left around by campers] but part of me just always think of how much like corvids keas are compared to other parrots. All parrots are bloody smart like corvids, but keas just have dispositions and lifestyles that REMIND ME so much more of corvids rather than other parrots.)

As an owner of two caiques, I don’t see what Keas do to be terribly different than how my caiques behave. For instance, they know how to get in and out of their cage. When they’re in their cage, they don’t come out because they like it in there. I have no realistic way of keeping them in there if they’re THAT determined to get out. And thankfully they like their cage, so it’s never an issue.

I’ve seen them make use of puzzle toys like this Kea and crow, even work together to get the treats in a toy. One will sit on a toy to push it down while the other holds it down with a foot. Thus both can get at food in this seesaw toy even though they’re barely able to get it on their own (the spring in the seesaw being a touch too strong for their little caique bodies to push down).

And I swear Enzo understands money. She watches me give cash to vendors at farmer’s markets and will purposefully unlock my purse and steal the money inside. I have to keep a hand on my purse while we’re out together just so she doesn’t take money while I’m not looking. Funny thing is, she only does this in a market environment like a store or the grocer’s. Never at home, even when offered the purse. Only at places where the money is deemed “important”.

So I’m not sure how different Keas are compared to other parrots, but I’ve never heard reports of Keas doing things I wouldn’t expect out of similar sized parrots in terms of destructiveness or inventiveness. If there’s one thing that DOES stand out, it’s social hunting behavior. Which IS a trait they share in common with some corvids.

Dog Hates Lettuce
“And then I told the lettuce head, what are ya, a vegetadope?”

Normally don’t reblog goofy corgi pics, but I love the emotion here.
People forget corgis have BIG TEETH. That’s a cattle herder dog right there, with a mouth meant for nipping and getting a cow’s attention. Sure they’re “ankle biter” height, but you could conceivably get hamstrung by a corgi.
My corgi was a sweetheart, but hotdamn the one time he DID bite me (got too excited over a piece of steak, went full wolf) I was incredibly happy to be wearing a thick shoe. And that he didn’t really want to take off my foot.
Lettuce is a goner.
(all information said with pride. I fucking love corgis. They’re amazing dogs)
